Future stuff

So I was asked to write an entry on what I am planning on doing for next semester with my portfolio.

As I was thinking it through, the things I really enjoy doing are packaging. Especially during the end of this semester, I thought up of a few packaging ideas and therefore got stickers in a box and tshirts that are rolled up with a band around it. I really enjoyed doing these projects. I also enjoy anything music-related. One of my electives I'm taking is CD package design, and I really love it. Once my projects are done (class ends Monday), I'll post them on here.

So next semester I'll be focusing on these things, as well as figuring out what companies I'd like to work for.

So over the break I'll be designing my thesis book. I found this image on google and was inspired.

I think this type of pattern would make a GREAT cover for my thesis book! I'll be using my color pallet, of course. It would definitely illustrate a finished and polished process. Maybe I'll add this to my process book, because I did have to make minor edits, and I want my process book to be in better condition after my printer issue which cost alot of time.

I'll post updates on my thesis spreads. I already have a good feeling about it. Maybe I'll do a photoshoot or two with the tshirts.

Process Book

I edited some after the critique from the final class. Here's my book.

Pics of my finished packaging pieces are in the book so no need to post photos. I do, however, need to re-take the individual shirt pictures. Lighting was bad. Those probably need natural light.

Outline for Process Book

So I got a decent-ish outline for my process book, which will make my life easier when I design it. Here we go...

1. The Research
2. Color Pallet
3. Typography
4. Visual Language
5. Spreading the word (Informational pieces)
6. Conceptual pieces (Stickers and T-Shirts)

So the first four sections will explain the developments of my thesis and the last two will talk about the definitions of the pieces I developed.

T-Shirt packaging part 2 and preview of process book cover

Like these better. Probably am gonna pick the first one, though, for legibility purposes. I like the third one too, though. We'll see.

Preview of my process book cover...

I'm going to have a belly band made from acetate or vellum (whichever works best) and on it will be the logo but in the pixels of the colors. When on, it's hiding the logo until you take it off.

I'm thinking of doing the same to my thesis book, but in color, to illustrate a fully finished book. This one is putting the pieces together.
I think the tshirt packaging would look better as something like this...

I feel a band around the whole thing is too bulky. I even don't like how it looks as a layout. Everything looks too big.

Still doing vellum, though, to keep the purpose of transparency.

Time for the process book...

So as I'm tightening up my pieces, I'm going to start by figuring out my categories for my process book...

Topic and research
Mind map
Inspirations
Color pallet
Visual Language
Patterns
Statistics
Typography
Concepts

More will probably come, a few might change...

T-Shirt packaging (rough drafts)

These are going to be hard to display until they're printed out and around the t-shirts. Each t-shirt is going to be wrapped around by this packaging printed out of vellum. Here are sketches to help with the visual and the variations I did.

Now the layouts. I know they're boring now, but I posted em for technical feedback. Don't want to print them out until I'm certain about the choice I pick.

Branding stickers and posters

Did some variations. Should I keep the logo small so the X gets more attention yet you know it's an "access" sticker, or keep the logo bigger so we can tell from afar? Feedback is more than welcomed.

The last one I didn't post up yet and the one before I have but during its process. I pretty much just took the symbols from flags or emblems of each country and applied them to its appropriate spots. Second one is a follow-up poster containing details why these websites in these countries were banned.

Logo and t-shirts update

Edited more on the logo.

So I'm doing the white-on-white idea for the t-shirts, it was actually a good idea.

I picked three that looked the best. I also picked them by rank numbers to have a bit of variation, and I did want to include China due to its mess with internet censorship.

The hangtags will be printed on vellum. I'm also doing the packaging of the t-shirts in vellum due to its translucency. I'm doing that to any packaging I create. The sleeve for the stickers box I'm using acetate and as stated earlier, the entire packaging for my books (maybe I'll put the stickers in there too, who knows) will be x-rayish.

Silkscreening will be done Saturday or Monday. Sooner would be good, but unfortunately no free times when I'm availible.

Stickers packaging template

Outside - black
Inside - Orange

The pixelated strip with the X on it is going to be a wrap-around. You open it by pulling it off. The X will lay on top of the packaging.

I just need to buy sticker paper and I'm set to measure the actual width of the box. Should turn out good.

Another set of ideas

Edited logos...as suggested by Ramon, I checked out Unibody. Liked the font and its variations it has to offer.

Tried color with one...

Changed the sticker to give it a stronger feel. Didn't get to go out and take pictures. Will probably do it before class. They're for my process book anyways.

Took the "white on white" discussion to its advantage and created a line of t-shirts. When I thought of white-on-white, I thought of cloth. Each shirt represents one of the internet enemies and what their ranks are.

Closeup on one of them...as you can see, I'm making a brand tag out of my logo for the shirt...

Tried some color incase the white-on-white thing isnt a good idea.

Edited my grid to a full spread. Used my pixelated patterns as a chapter break. I have others according to my color pallet. I just need to tighten my pattern a bit more and it'll look good. My books are going to be perfect squares due to inspiration of the pixels. Sofar they're 8x8, maybe bigger if I decide to do perfect bound.

More to come. Planning on completing a few more posters and packaging for the stickers.

Stickers and first batch of pictures

Unfortunately when I took pictures, I had alot of blur and grain, so I had to do alot of photoshop work, possibly due to the sucky light source I was trying to use. But here's one of the pictures that I did alot of editing (maybe still have to do more, but looking good sofar):

Here are the rest, unedited. They'll be like the first photo.

I'll be making a series of posters based on the sites I took pictures of and will be using the site where I got my info on media websites and put in information as to what country banned that site and why.

Tomorrow I'll take some outdoor pictures. I'll place stickers on anything I can find with a URL. I'll also make the real stickers and its packaging, making them an ironic product when it comes to censorship.
